Hello, darling.

by Turtledove

Daddy's coming home soon.
But don't worry, your big brother's here.

We can both sleep in my treehouse tonight
We'll climb higher than he can reach
Where I'll tell you stories about ballerinas
And carry you if you get too tired.

Take your teddy bear and your music box
And climb into my arms.

I think I hear the car pulling up.

So sweet and a little sad. Childhood nostalgia, or wishing for some.
